Last night, The Duck House invited local residents and traders to start Christmas early all in the name of Charity. The Duck House welcomed guests to the beautiful voice of Harriet Holbrough, whose song bellowed throughout the old Town Hall buildings warming the coldest of cockles. Guests were invited to enjoy drinks and canapes as a little taster of what is to come over the Christmas period, dishes served included Polenta cakes with mushroom ragu and a squash puree and turkey crostini with plum jelly.
The charity involved was Smile for Life, a Gosforth based charity whose aim it is to support disabled and disadvantaged Children in the area enabling them to lead easier, happier and fulfilling lives. Money was kindly donated by guests at The Duck House and all proceeds from the evening went to the charity. Owner Jack Lapping said ‘When looking for a charity to support in the area, we chose Smile for Life as it seemed to sit perfectly, with the combination of their café scheme and their huge amount of admirable work with Children in our local communities’
Moving forward over the festive period The Duck House has pledged to add a discretionary pound to each bill and welcome further donations to the North East charity. A spokesperson from the charity was delighted with the funds raised so far stating it was ‘fantastic’ and ‘it all helps’ before thanking The Duck House for the support.
